This was published yesterday afternoon…all members should be getting this information soon

Crista Mae (Pennington) Merchant, 68, of Windsor Locks, CT died peacefully at home on February 5, 2022 after a brief second battle with cancer. At her side was her loving husband of sixteen years, James Merchant. She was pre-deceased by her first husband Dane Clark in 2002. She leaves behind two sons, Gary Clark (Candice) of Belchertown, MA and Nathan Clark (Michelle) of Drain, OR; as well as two step-children, Christian Merchant (Jessica Pace) of Wilbraham, MA and Keri Braley of Burlington, CT. She also leaves her sister Heather Long (Larry) of East Longmeadow, MA, sister Bonnie of Douglasville, GA, and brother Daryl Pennington (Peggy) of East Longmeadow. Crista will also be deeply missed by her 9 grandchildren: Dane & Owen; Laaron, Caleb & Brody; Alex & Ryan; and Anya & Morgan.
Crista attended both Western New England University and the University of Massachusetts. Soon after graduating, she married Dane Clark and made a home in Oregon where she raised her two sons. She worked in the photo processing industry in OR and in MA, she worked with Goodwill Industries and Michael’s Arts & Crafts, retiring in 2010.
Crista had an enduring love for art in many forms, and her diverse hobbies reflected this. She had a passion for painting, most recently completing a beautiful, serene mural in their home. She loved digging in her gardens and watching her plants grow and bloom. Hiking and a devotion to everything outdoors was evident in her being. Waterfalls were an especially quiet source of peace. Always seeking the unseen, she found particular joy in collecting stones and shells, as well as Geo-caching along trails. As a result of marrying Jim, she grew to love skiing and snowshoeing in Vermont, and bicycling in the Suffield area and various bike paths across New England. The White Mountains of New Hampshire always held a special place in her heart, where she hiked often with Jim and family members on a number of adventures. Their love of traveling together brought them to countless beautiful places, including Italy, Alaska, Canada and numerous U.S. National Parks. When staying local to CT, Crista looked forward to their Miata rides across the state, on beautiful days with the top down, sometimes with no destination at all. She met many new friends and went on local tours with the Nutmeg Miata Club, happy to guide from the passenger seat.
Crista’s ever-present quiet, kind and careful nature was felt in every room she entered. She listened with deep intent, and offered words of encouragement in any situation. Her eye-sparkling smile and calming force was contagious, and family and friends alike will be forever thankful for the impact she made on their lives.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 11 AM – 12 PM at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, she would have appreciated a donation to either Windsor Locks Senior Center, 41 Oak St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096 or Trinity Health of New England at Home, 101 Phoenix Ave. Enfield, CT 06082. Dear Jim,

I know that you and your family are heartbroken; yet relieved that Crista’s suffering is over.
I know you have consolation in the time you shared. I think especially of your reflections:
“The White Mountains of New Hampshire always held a special place in her heart, where she hiked often with Jim and family members on a number of adventures. Their love of traveling together brought them to countless beautiful places, including Italy, Alaska, Canada, and numerous U.S. National Parks. When staying local to CT, Crista looked forward to their Miata rides across the state, on beautiful days with the top down, sometimes with no destination at all. She met many new friends and went on local tours with the Nutmeg Miata Club, happy to guide from the passenger seat.”

Blessings and peace, Steve Crowson (Hamden)
