A very interesting email landed in my inbox on Monday offering the Club an opportunity to participate in the MISS AMERICA PAGEANT 100th ANNIVERSARY Celebration Parade.

The Miss America Organization and our own Miss Connecticut, Sapna Raghavan, are looking for  50 convertibles to participate in a parade in Mystic, CT on     Monday September 6.  Which happens to be Labor Day. I know, short notice, holiday weekend, people have plans, etc, etc. But there has to be some people that can help out and be in Mystic at 8am on Labor Day for a 10 am parade.  Just think, you might have the next Miss America in YOUR car!!.

This is just the basic information that I have gotten since Monday afternoon, and did not get the actual date and time until Wednesday mid-day.  As a bonus, Sapna Raghavan, Miss Connecticut, has agreed to pitch this IN PERSON on August 15 at the start of our Poker Run.  The Organization is looking for as many commitments ASAP.

What this all boils down to is we are looking for 50 cars on Labor Day, one for every state for a Miss America parade.  If you sign up, please show up.
a new signup page will be posted on the events page as soon as possible.

look for more information in the club Forum pages over the next few days

think this through…the whole idea is for one of the 50 Miss America contestants to be in the convertible during the parade…these cars only have two seats!!

your co-pilot will have to watch the parade from the sidelines

Go to the events page and sign up…this will let me know how many folks are willing to show up and represent the club

Thank you for the opportunity….unfortunately I/We can’t commit as have a family thing on Sat, the 4th, and planning on Lime Rock, “Sunday in the Park” on Sunday the 5th. Monday, 6th reserved for fun-day with grandkids probably. I’m sure there will be several to support this.

I get it about the holiday weekend…the bright spot is this may be early enough in the day to do the parade, and keep family stuff going in the afternoon

OK folks…this is how this works

your Miata…one driver…one contestant in the passenger seat for the parade

If you show up with two people, the second person watches the parade from the sidelines

    that’s it

    OK…a little more info

A Miata.net member that has a convertible other than a Miata contacted the Miss America organization directly after seeing the basic info on Miata.net

this is what he got in reply

We would be delighted to have you join our 100th anniversary iconic Show Us Your Shoes parade celebration on Monday, September 6, 2021. The parade line up and staging area will be at the Mystic Aquarium Milne Center parking lot at 8 AM EST SHARP. The state titleholders will have media and press interviews and a time to change and freshen up in the Milne Center between 8am -9:30am. We will have state titleholders load into the vehicles around 9:30-9:45am.

Each car will also have a passenger with the state titleholder to be able to assist the driver on the route as well as provide water, etc for the state titleholder. We will have water available for everyone in each car. Please bring a blanket and cushion/small pillow for the candidate to sit on. The parade begins at 10 AM.

The route takes us back to the Mystic Aquarium Milne Center parking lot as the ending point for the parade. The parade should last no longer than two hours. You may wear the attire of your choice, within good taste.

Magnets for each side of your car will be provided that will have the state on it. (For example, Miss South Dakota).

You must have a valid driver’s license and current car insurance—please bring that with you the day of the parade. I have attached the flyer information. Please pass it along to your friends!

If you could please confirm that you are interested in participating, that would be much appreciated. Thank you so much for offering to participate in the 100th Anniversary Miss America Show Us Your Shoes Parade!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Got a rapid response from the Liz Brown person mentioned in previous post

    Thanks so much, Joe!

We got the word out the other day thru media channels as well, and we have over 50 convertible owners who have reached out.  We can use about 10-15 more as we have former Miss America’s and our Outstanding Teen also participating.

Very grateful for any of your club members that want to spend a bit of their Labor Day with the Miss America Organization and carrying on our “Show Us Your Shoes” Parade tradition!

    My best,

    Liz Brown

“Each car will also have a passenger with the state titleholder to be able to assist the driver on the route as well as provide water, etc for the state titleholder.”

Doesn’t this mean three people per car? Driver, passenger and titleholder between the seats where my wind-blocker attaches?

Don’t overthink this…there are only two seats…one for the driver and one for the contestant

The Miss America Organization rep has already gotten back to me on this…the Miata will be fine

I reached out to Liz Brown about the parade…and concerns about the ‘third person’ thing

here is what i got back

    Good morning—

Thank you for your email.  I’ve forwarded your note to Brenda Goldsmith who will be taking over and managing the cars/drivers going forward as I won’t be traveling to CT this weekend and Brenda has more than two decades of parade experience.  If they want to reach out to her directly, her email is brenda@missamerica.org.    She’s great and will work it out.

I went! It was pretty cool, very few miatas but a lot of other old classic cars that were fun to see.

Here’s a photo of my NB! Hopefully they will post official footage, so far I was only able to get photos from other people on instagram.
