TURKEY TROT 2020 NOV 14

NMC members,

Just because COVID has ruined our usual plans for the holidays doesn’t mean we can’t spread some cheer and goodwill to our community!  Recent changes in the allowable limits on indoor gatherings pretty well ruled out the chance of a party.

Our idea is to take the $400 or so we usually spend on subsidizing the club’s holiday party and using those funds to help out the less fortunate this Thanksgiving. The FRIENDLY HANDS FOOD BANK in Torrington had reached out to us a couple weeks ago and wanted us to use our cars to help spread a few smiles and bring attention to their food drives on Saturday Nov 14th. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, the whole idea had to be scrapped. This puts them way behind on donations this year. This is where the Club comes in.

The Board has approved the plan that the club use the $400 to buy turkeys to donate to FRIENDLY HANDS FOOD BANK. This is where the Club members can really make a difference. Instead of spending your $$$ on attending the Holiday party, feel free to bring your own donation. Maybe some canned yams, cranberry sauce, or stuffing? Let’s get as many of us as we can at their collection point on Saturday November 14  for a large food donation and photo opportunity. The collection point is in Torrington at the TORRINGTON MUNICIPAL & TEACHERS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION 777 EAST MAIN STREET, TORRINGTON.   10am-12 noon.  We would like to see a bunch of Miata Club members in the 11:30-12 time frame for the photo opp. We could mound all our donations on a Miata for dramatic effect and get a shot with club members and our cars, along with our club logo banner.

Our plan is still to do donations of toys on the first Saturday in December, just because we can’t have our party does not mean we forget about families in need at Christmas time. It may not be black Friday yet, but feel free to bring a toy for the Christmas donation on Saturday and we’ll add it to what the club donates.

Today was great…a bunch of folks came out and helped this organization…but there are a lot of Clubmembers still out there that did not make it today…its not too late to help out!!

ten cars out for a ride after the Food Bank thing…

Thank you to all the folks that showed up in Torrington today…I think I saw about 20 Miatas in the parking lot at one point.  that is a pretty good turnout for something that we have never tried before.  Karen thomas of the friendly Hands Food Bank was blown away when she saw all the Miatas pulling in to the collection point today.

 

the club treasury provided 29 turkeys and some groceries…staying within the projected budget…the Clubmembers did the rest!!

 

Then 10 cars went out for a nice little ride afterward.

 

there was a reporter from the Waterbury paper there today to get some pics of the clubmembers, the donation and a few Miatas…which was very nice

The email has been sent to all club members…so lets see what we can get done this Saturday!!…hope to see a bunch of Miatas in that parking lot around 11:30…ish

Time to sweeten the pot just a little…it was suggested at tonight’s monthly club meeting tha we go for a ride after taking care of the food bank stuff…

Ssooooo…lets go for a ride!!…I can string together at least a 2 hr excursion that will be entertaining and end up someplace for a late lunch/early dinner…so show up..donate..go riding…what better way to spend the day
