A few weeks ago the daytime running lights/instrument panel lights/rear lights stopped working on our 91 NA. We’ve changed the fuses and the relay but no luck. Everything else works, headlights, blinkers etc.

Any ideas? Also at this stage we’re stuck, is there any recommendations for a knowledgeable garage who could check?

Thanks guys. Thankfully we resolved the issue, it was a combination of some fried wiring and a bad replacement relay.  We fixed up the wiring and got a second relay and bingo it worked!  Now the car is ready for Lime Rock next weekend!

’91 did not come with factory daytime running lights. Some added the OEM module, but that will only work with ’94-’97 model years. Moss did sell a DRL type light setup that utilized the front parking/running lights. I’m not sure if it was available for all NA years. There are several versions of DIY daytime running light conversions that have been posted on miata.net.

My guess would be either a wiring issue or a DRL component failure. You need to look for any additional non-oem  wiring and components that were added to the OEM harness. Paying attention to any wire taps (vampire) and electrical tape wrapped splices to the OEM lighting wiring harness.

When your DRLs did work, which lights were illuminated?

Try the Miata.net forum. I’ve found that it’s a good resource and there are links to factory service manuals with wiring diagrams.
