Tech Day ’23

Hi folks, looks like the tech day is coming up quick! Is anyone planning anything big? I’m installing MeisterR coilovers this weekend with a buddy but I want to change my gearbox and rear diff oils at the tech day. I know everyone has their preferences but I think I’m going to order Redline products. I think I need about 3 quarts of MTL for the trans and one of GL5 for the diff?

Im also hoping the dent repair guy is there, I have LOTS of dents, lol. My paint did clean up pretty well though.

Also what if any tools should I bring? Planning on some sockets and jack stands.

Using the Ford unicorn tears is not an instant improvement …it happens over time as the additives in the oil begin to work their magic on the syncros…might take up to a couple thousand miles

Great pics Dave. I really enjoyed working on a few of the cars. Scott, you have an amazing collection of tools that you willingly share ……. what a bonus!

thanks for the insight, I’m just going to change it to regular GL5 asap. Luckily I have the option of just parking it in the garage till I can get to it. Not great Miata weather the rest of the week anyway..

 

Worst case scenario will be a leaking oil seals.  However, there are no documentation proof I can give you on this claim.

My knuckles are healing up nicely! It’s come to my attention that I put the wrong fluid in my diff, the Redline NS is for transmissions with brass parts, not recommended for LSDs unless you add your own friction modifiers so I’ll be draining and refilling again this weekend  . Hopefully it won’t do any damage in the meantime but I haven’t been doing any drag launches or drifting .  Did you guys who used the ford fluid notice a big difference driving home? I didn’t notice much of anything with the MTL.

Thank you to Scott and Rita, and congratulations on an amazing 25th tech day hosted!!! And it was a great one. Lots of work got done on many cars, some small jobs and some big jobs. And our thanks goes out to Jeff the dent magician who worked on many of our cars. The amazing spread put out by Rita for lunch is a thing of legend, and thank you Bev I saw you helping out in the kitchen.

To all those who lent a hand in the garage, a tech day wouldn’t be what it is without members willing to share their labor, knowledge, and persistence with the club.

So happy to hear that you like your new setup. (lightly used Tokiko Illumina/FM springs and Racing Beat front sway bar) There were a bunch of folks that pitched in on this…Dave, Mark, Patrick and myself…that I saw getting dirty…and not to mention Karina pitching in and walking away with her own share of grit, grime and grease…you go girl!!

 

Next up on the suspension side is Megan…i picked up a lightly used set of MeisterR Sportives for her that are going on next week here in Joe’s Magic Driveway

Thanks to everyone that helped with my suspension!! It drives like a dream now!! I think I learned enough to help out with the next suspension upgrade. 🙂

I couldn’t find better words to describe the warm hospitality and most importantly Rita’s home cooking expertise was evident here.  Thank you both!

Dent doctor did a fantastic work removing some of the dings and bumps on my paint.  I was able to accomplish my walnut blasting my intake valves before the beautiful clear skies shows so many distant stars. Thank you also to Robert and many others who helped me get it done.

It was also good seeing new members and had a great time chatting with the regular club attendees.

There was a very nice smell of walnuts as I pulled in my garage.

Thanks again Scott for being a great host.  Wishing Rita and to all the Mom…Happy Mothers Day!

Just did a suspension install 2 weeks ago so hopefully ill be of some help there. Looks like were going to be changing a lot of gear oil, mine included. Im bringing a jack and 2 jack stands and a bag o’ tools so hopefully we can find a few more and do some simultaneously! I have the “special” socket you’re supposed to use as well.

Hi all… I see a couple of other cars will be doing transmission / differential fluid changes tomorrow. I’ve had this on my “to-do” list for a while but haven’t managed to get it done, so if there’s time and space, would like to take care of this as well. I have fluids (Motorcraft XT-M5-QS for the trans, Redline 75w90 GL-5 for the diff). I think I also have the correct replacement crush washers if needed.

Either way, looking forward to the drive up to New Milford with the nice forecast, the great food, and hanging out for while…

Do we get group discount with Dent doctor?  I have 1-2 small dings that bothers me and obviously I am the only one who can see them.  🙂

I planned on coming this Saturday and maybe clean my intake valves.  If you and our club members approves this request, I will bring my own tools but needed a jack, jack stand, a good compressor, and Shop Vac for this job.

I added more “ tickets “ to the event so everyone that wants to should be able to signup now… as Rita said there is no limit, every member is welcome. Even if you don’t plan to work on a car come for the socializing and great food.

Also I plan to be on hand to help orient members to the new site features.

In addition to things mentioned here, i have gotten a few messages.

paul is looking for an oil change on his 90

I have to swap out a shock on another 90 and that one will need trans and diff oil changed

another new member may need help with a oil pressure gauge swap on his 95

 

Karina is looking for her suspension upgrade, and i will need an extra pair of hands for that one.

So if you are handy with tools, This saturday is the time to show off some of your skill!!

The weather is looking cooperative, food is being prepared, the tools are organized and await their tasks, Jeff the dent tech will be available to fix your dents, and it should be a FINE day.
