Well…I was really hoping tht SOMEONE would step up and do this…but alas…it is up to me to make it happen.

i have several routes that start in the Granby area…I just have to pick one and run it sometime between now and Friday…whoopee!!…thank you Jim Merchant for providing me these routes.  Not an area we frequent.

Start time 10am Sunday…not sure where exactly yet, but I will have an email sent out.

We can’t have rides if nobody steps up!!…this is my last one until Poker Run in August…tag!!!…you’re it!!

There is a signup on the events page…a few names on the list would be nice…

I was going to offer some roads like route 272 that goes up to Campbell Falls and stabs into Mass. Then Canaan-Southfield/Canaan Valley back into Ct. Then make way through the back roads of Mohawk Mt. to the area between Lake Waramaug and Kent. I just dont know how to set up breaks and the after run dinner.

Thanks for the offer Mike…I have several routes I got from Jim that he used years ago…starting in the Granby area…someplace we do not frequent

As things turn out…I am thinking of moving this to the following weekend due to weather concerns over the next few days…the calendar is a living and breathing thing and subject to change….

The weather report from “The Weather Channel” doesn’t seem too dire, partly cloudy and 60 deg.

    Joe,

Please pick a date and stick with it. You always say that the cars won’t melt if it rains.

We have already reached out to other club members about signing up based on it being on this Sunday.

Joe, people might sign up for events if there are some details about it posted, not just a title and date.

Changing the date four days before is not confidence inspiring.

Weather both this Sunday and next looks to be very similar. No rain on either Sunday and same temperature, high of 59°. So rain isn’t a factor.

For me the 18th is OK, the 24th is not.

We’re not ganging up on you, Joe. After all you had to do this at the last moment ’cause no one would step up and host. I’m willing for an informal impromptu ride Sunday if nothing else. It would be nice to have radios, though.

The Event was rescheduled, Levi. It is now next Sunday the 25th. I think you’re right about the weather, though. I’ll be out. You’ve probably been there, but you should take a nice drive north to Bear Mountain and check it out and also Harriman State Park. There are some very snaky roads within Harriman.

Thank you for this information Mike.  Thank you.

Bear has lots of cyclist, hikers, etc. so had to watch out around a bend.  I look forward to next Sunday then.

I haven’t checked the forums for this thread.  I was hoping to go out for a drive if weather is ok.

I see it’s rescheduled.  I’ll try to make next week.

As for Harriman state park, yes that’s a great place.  If you want to drive spirited there get there 6-7 am.  Low amount of bikers before 8.

It is noon on Saturday the 24th….and no details regarding the drive tomorrow?  Was it sent to people who had signed up for the 18th before it was rescheduled to the 25th?

Maybe if details were available…people would sign up?

Just a heads up…I am well aware that this sunday might have some weather issues…but this is a rain or shine ride.

I have run the route and the designated rest stops both have limited facilities…most likely COVID related.  I am trying to come up with alternatives so we don’t have to spend too much time at the rest stops.

Finding new roads is enough for me, come rain or shine. I can always revisit when it’s nicer.

Saturday ended up being a pretty nice day…Dave M and Mike L and I ran the route today…start to finish…after the massMiata tech day jaunt…lots of windshield time today!!

the ride is a nice combination of cruising roads and back road twisties…followed by a nice spot for lunch.

All of their protocols are in place…dividers between tables…masks required..etc..etc

Hopefully we will get at least a little bit of a break in the predicted weather…but we go rain or shine!!

see you all in the morning

    Joe

I would like to thank the folks that came out last sunday…9 cars total.  and the day turned out to be not that bad weather wise…my group was top down about 20 miles in.

Thanks to Jim Merchant for this route…in an area that we do not frequent.  Nothing but good comments from the participants…and great place to have lunch afterwards
