March 20, 2019 at 6:31 pmI’m not sure if anyone has stepped up to plan something for the spring run yet, so…I can try to put something together down here on the shoreline if anyone is interested. I’ll probably use a few roads from my run from a few years ago plus a few new ones, with a casual lunch. Let me know so I can start planning.
(yes Joe, I will print it out this time) 🙂

I hope everyone had fun (although you’d be forgiven for thinking it was March). I woke up feeling pretty run down after a full week of business travel and decided I wasn’t up to it; sorry for no head’s up.

“Curses, Foiled Again!”
There I was in the Miata, top down, wearing my Crusin’ Connecticut Shirt (with name badge), on-time and heading to the meeting place…and as I approach the Connecticut River, I find that God had decided that I was not to run today. The swing bridge from East Haddam to Haddam had been struck by lightning last night and was closed to traffic!
So, I took a “let’s turn left/let’s turn right” return to the old hacienda, took a few pictures along the way and found that the Miata can ford at least 4″ or running water.
Hope the rest of you had a good run and I’ll see you soon.
just saw this…well, that sux that you didn’t make it…but the ride went over that bridge yesterday….TWICE!!

The Benton Perspective: Applause to Dave and Cindy Little on their first organized Run, also our first Run of the 2019 NMC season. We drove sixty miles to the start point and sixty back home, adding seventy-two miles of pure excitement within our group of about twenty cars. The trip to southern Connecticut was well worth it. We held an excellent pace for many miles over purely Miata terrain, proving out (as always) the exceptional handling of our little cars, and especially how our Miata MX-5 wheels seemed so magically glued to the pavement as we rounded corners. We were guided through much beauty, past little towns with big, impressive homes. We enjoyed the great stone architecture placed amongst well-treed forests by Nature’s hand along our way. We made our mid-Run pit stop at Gillette’s Castle, always a treat, and finally pulled into the Fish Tale Restaurant in Madison on the CT shore to end the Run. Holly and I hope this will be only the first of many organized Runs they will plan and conduct in the future. They definitely have a knack for it.

Great first run of the season! Thank you Dave and Cindy. For early spring, the weather could have been much worse. I for one was very happy, top down for the whole run, only had to put it up on the way home. Fish Tales was a great place to handle so many all at once. Not being a sit down, waitress service, kind of place has it’s advantages.

Was Taylor Auger at our Spring Run today? He is a new member from Niantic and I was looking forward to meeting him.

Kudos to Dave & Cindy – The ride was a great mix of twisty roads and cruising small highways. Fish Tale was also very good. We appreciate the work that went into planning the ride, thanks.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Spring Run today and braved the gravel washed over the roads, and the wind and cold. 🙂 I’m glad we had a break in the weather between rainstorms.
I hope you all had a good time, I know Cindy and I did 🙂

Dopler Redar looks as though the rain is passing over us pretty soon. I was hoping for that, maybe a chance to drive topless yet!

I RSVP’d as going to this event and I was really looking forward to it, but my wife recently, and semi-forcefully, reminded me that we have to attend a christening that morning, so I will regretfully not be joining. 🙁

A little info for anyone joining us on the Spring Run.
The start point should be easy to find, but here is another helpful address. If you are using Google Maps you can search for…
Park and Ride. Hoop Pole Hill Rd. Chester, CT
The Park and Ride is not really near anything, there are no bathrooms or gas stations close, so it would be a good idea to take care of things beforehand.
Some of the roads on the ride are pretty narrow and twisty (fun) but all this rain has been washing some sand over in a few places, and creating some potholes, I will try to keep everyone aware of any hazards.
The restaurant for lunch (The Fish Tale) does not serve alcohol, however you are welcome to byob if you want, and you can drink in the outside seating areas. Hopefully it will be nice 🙂
The run is not too long, just under 75 miles, so if anyone wants to take a short drive to Hammonasset Beach after lunch we can do that, or we can take a short drive along the shore somewhere. Just let me know and I’ll figure something out 🙂
see you on Saturday at 10:00.
~Dave~

Hi Bruce! Thanks for the offer but I’d still like to plan something myself 🙂 Been working on it already, and doing more this weekend. If you are planning another Mt Greylock run, I would be interested in that I had a blast on the last one!

Dave & Cindy,
If you are not to deep in your planing? I would be willing to run the 2016 Mt Grey Lock run I did. Only clinch I have is the April 27th date? I am not available.
May 18, or 19 would work for me.
Let me know your thoughts? I may still do an impromptu Mt. Grey Lock run on May 18, or 19 if the club members are interested.
Bruce

Dave – Thanks for stepping up. We bowed out this year due to my left knee ligament tears. Not sure I can otherwise be of much help for the CT shore roads.
Thanks … Jim Merchant
