Its getting to be that time of year again…Holiday season is in full swing, new Year right around the corner.

So…start thinking about next year Miata activities!!!

Bring your ideas on Sunday February 4, 2024 at noon to the First Congregational Church in downtown Waterbury. We will be putting ALL official Club events for the year on the calendar…Tech days, rides, autoX, etc. The 2023 calendar will be used as an outline and a starting point…

Same place that we met last year…and once again, it is also a chance to show off your culinary skills…this is a Pot Luck lunch!! Kitchen access as last year…bring your favorite adult beverage if you wish.

Club will provide the paper and plastic and some beverages (not of the adult kind)

This is also officer elections…so if you want to vote, you must be present.

This is just a little reminder…there will eventually be a signup page with the actual address and time…after the New Year rolls over. This thread is for comments and ideas .

Feel free to post what you are bringing also.

This is YOUR Club…your input is ALWAYS welcomed…

    Joe

“This is also officer elections…so if you want to vote, you must be present.”

    Sorry, not true.

    See:

    “BYLAWS Article VII
NOMINATIONS, ELECTIONS and TERMS OF OFFICE FOR
    OFFICERS

Section C. Voting in elections of officers shall occur during the
first two weeks of January each year and shall be completed,
closed and counted at the January general membership meeting.
Members may cast their vote at that meeting or, in view of the
expansive area from which the membership is drawn, via U.S. Mail
or e-mail during January prior to the date of the January
membership meeting. All mailed votes shall be directed to the
Club Secretary currently serving and must be received prior to
the date of the January general membership meeting. All ballots
submitted in accordance with this section shall be kept by the
Secretary. The Secretary shall oversee the election of officers
at the January meeting, at which time the Secretary shall count
the ballots submitted by members via any method submitted in
accordance with this section. Election of Officers shall be
determined by a majority of the votes cast at or prior to this
general membership meeting in accordance with this section. In
the event of a numerical tie of all votes cast for any office, there
shall be an immediate run-off election with votes being cast
by the members present at the January general membership
meeting and the majority selection by that election shall be
deemed elected by the membership. The Secretary shall make a
record of the elections and submit a summary thereof to the
Webmaster for publication at the earliest date possible. The
results will also be emailed to the members on the current
    distribution list.”

Waiting to see who the nominees are.

    Per the Bylaws:

“Nominees shall be announced in December via email to the Club members and on the club website on the 1st of December.”

It was in the 11/5/23 E-Mail IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Annual Officers’ Nominations for 2024 & Toy Drive

Should not be that hard to comprehend the Bylaws and comply.

Interesting…I have been in the Club since ’08…and some sort of office since ’09…and i have NEVER seen a mailed vote…NEVEREVER

Doesn’t mean it cannot be done…just never had anyone do it

As a Club Board Member for 14 years, I hope you have read the Bylaws by now.

Looks like more than 1 Bylaw has been broken.

“Section C. Voting in elections of officers shall occur during the
first two weeks of January each year and shall be completed,
closed and counted at the January general membership meeting.”

When is the January meeting scheduled for?

“Nominees shall be announced in December via email to the Club members and on the club website on the 1st of December.”

It’s well past December 1st and no email announcement or posting on the Club website of the nominated officers, only a listing of the current Officers.

It shouldn’t be a long list making it difficult or time consuming to publish.

A request for nominations went out to all clubmembers on 11/5/23

As far as I know as of right now…NO nominations other than present board members were received…

None of the present board members have indicated that they are wanting to step aside at this time

The January all members meeting, mentioned in the above post and by-laws, is actually scheduled for Feb 4…a matter of convenience

If someone wants to vote in January, as indicated by the aforementioned by-laws, go right ahead. The planning meeting is still when the actual vote will happen, plus any mailed in votes.

So the planning meeting will be on the Events page later today.

In regards to the voting, we can set this up for email but I would like to mention we would need to then work out either who is at the planning meeting and ensure that if they voted by email prior that they are not allowed to vote a second time onsite. This is doable but adds more work for what seems to be no reason if no one has been nominated.

Shall we resend the nomination email? Should we post this in the forums for further discussion? Just wondering how far we need to chase people down to ensure they had a chance to nominate? 280 people opened the nomination email (not sure why so many, a good topic for another discussion) and of the 280 that opened it 15 nominated the current board (along with one idiot suggestion, I will not post the name of who was nominated as it was not a person in the club).

More work for no reason unless I am missing something?

To add if anyone would like to volunteer on the board I’d happily step down and Events Coordinator would be open to anyone who wants it. I am doing it to help out and kept accepting the nomination as no one was stepping up.

With no contested positions the voting thing is a non-issue.

if anyone has been following along or read the initial email from last November and wanted to nominate someone else…that ship has sailed…according to the by-laws

Keeping things simple for now is the best path.

We were very much  looking forward to attending the Panning meeting on Feb 4th but on this date we will be lying on the beach of Punta Cana drinking Margherita’s and therefore unable to attend. But very much looking forward to a great 2024 NMC season.

Keith, I am available to help carry luggage.  I also make a mean margarita, and I know just enough Spanish to keep myself out of trouble.
just send me your flight info, I work cheap. :).

    Dave,

Thanks for the offer but I have a better idea. How about we move the February meeting to the beach in Punta Cana 🙂 and everyone bring there favorite umbrella drink recipe as we plan the fantastic  Spring/Summer/Fall NMC events. But I suppose the club would have to increase the yearly membership fee considerably to cover the airfare/Resort/Food and drinks…etc.  Ha!!

We won’t be making it to the planning meeting this year as Cindy has surgery scheduled for the day after.
not sure if we will be planning any runs this year either.  I think we need to rest.
