Hey all!
Excited to join the club and would like to take a moment to introduce myself (Austin) and my father (Steve). I have loved cars my entire life thanks to my parents and feel grateful that we found a cool group like this to enjoy the driving season with. My dad has always been a Mustang guy but overall just loves cars. I grew up with a love for Mustangs and JDM cars. The first real car that I purchased on my own was a 350z that I adored for its low center of gravity and wonderful handling. In my opinion the Z car is the perfect GT car for a modest budget. Unfortunately the Z has seen retirement due to rust and there have been many lessons learned along that journey. Following the Z I purchased a 2016 Focus ST in the gorgeous Kona Blue. This car served me well for 3 years as a very well rounded daily. Eventually my time with this car came to an end and I moved on (more on that in a little bit…). Now rewind for a second so I can highlight the years of me telling my dad we should get a Miata. They were cheap, fun and easy to work on and we would be able to work together and go for rides. I must have pestered him about finally getting himself a fun car for 10+ years before the perfect scenario fell in our laps. We found ourselves the owners of a 1990 Mariner Blue NA with a manual transmission and only 62,000 miles. The condition was fantastic and it was garage kept its entire life. It is still 30 years old and needs some refreshing but its been an absolute blast to work on and drive. Fast forward a couple more months and a ’23 GR86 replaced the ST as my daily so I am happy to say that there will be many fun cruises ahead for my dad and I. Can’t wait for the first events of the year!
