Hi, My 2002 LS  OEM 6spd Nardi black leather shift knob separated from the insert and cannot be tightened. So I am looking for a replacement.  I see new Nardi prestige shift knobs online but they do not have the oem 6 speed pattern.

Or … Does anyone have experience replacing a shift knob insert?

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Peter,

I think the threaded “insert” was molded into the knob. The only way i can think of resecuring it would be to inject some kind of epoxy or really strong glue, but I don’t see a way to keep it off the threads. If you thread a rod in there and do the injection, it would likely get stuck there or break the insert loose once again.

I would check with some of the miata specific parts places online, but a phone call might be faster, specific models of knob are never listed.

Thanks Dave , first for your super-human strength  😉  helping me remove the shift knob at tech day and for your analysis about the problems with attempting a repair.  I’ll do as you suggest and give those sources a call.  My online searches didn’t turn up any 6 speed knobs.

Also, your suggestion gave me the idea that a website article listing those suppliers (and others? ) would be a great resource for miata newbies like me!

Peter- Are you really needing the 6sp pattern engraved on the top? The OEM Nardi original I have for my 10th Anniversary did some come with the pattern, but replacements from Nardi do not. There are a few differences in dimensions. The replacement does stand a little taller and is a little larger in diameter but retain the OEM look.

Look up Nardi and the part number 3222.01.000. You will find the item in blue (for 10th anniversary) and black (for others). They are better value in my mind that trying to find the slightly smaller and tired OEM one.

I have several for the car, but they are blue…
