last year’s event proved to be immensely popular, and filled up early.

So, lets start off with…what is the Open AutoX?
A full day of getting to know your car,  under controlled conditions…and finding YOUR limits as well.

Like previous years, this full-day event…9am-5pm.. on the LRP kart track will be consist of:

Practice sessions on the upper course
practice sessions on the lower course
3 solo timed laps (to qualify for the Shootout)
And finally “fun runs” on the combined upper/lower course
In addition, a driving-instructor will be on-hand, lunch will be provided and trophies will be presented. By the end of the day you’ll have much more seat-time than a typical parking lot autox event!

The cost is $150 for club-members ($160 for non-members); limited to 40 drivers.(Cost is the same as last year.)

SPECTATORS WELCOME TO ATTEND…there is no cost to come and watch….you might even score a ride with one of the entrants or an instructor to get an idea of what this is all about.  If a spectator would care to join in the lunch, we will ask for a donation to cover the cost of lunch…TBD as the event time approaches…in cash at the time of the event.

We’re offering slots to Nutmeg Miata Club members EXCLUSIVELY during the month of February…that’s right…ONLY NMC members with paid up membership can sign up from Feb 1-29.
Starting March 1st we open it up to other Miata drivers and then if any  slots are left to other types of cars. After that, we will start a waiting list, which came in handy last year due to last minute family emergencies.

This is a rain or shine event…NO REFUNDS!!…if you have to cancel, YOU will be responsible for making arrangements to sell your spot.  This will make things much easier on Bob and the Club.  We can help with names off the waiting list, but ultimately, it will be up to you, the individual to get things sorted out.

Warning Last Year This Event Sold Out As Soon as we opened it up to non-members so if you are interested get your payment in before the end of the month.

    YOUR PAYMENT IS YOUR RSVP

You can make payment several ways…send a check to

    Nutmeg Miata Club
    c/o Bob Barron
    165 Rossi Dr.
    Bristol, CT 06010

    Also PayPal payments

MUST be Friends / Family.  PLEASE.

    treasurer@nutmegmiata.org

We will also take cash…in person…but this is not the preferred method. Paypal is the fastest way to make sure your spot is secured.  Check has to clear before your name added to list, so there would be a slight delay.  Cash payment has to wait until Bob gets to a computer to add your name.

Watch this thread for any additional information as we go forward…and there WILL be additional information…this is just a little something to get us started and the early signups started, as announced at the planning meeting.

Paid… for myself and my son

Thank you for being on the ball with a fast payment…

    BUT…

you did NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS AS STATED IN THE ORIGINAL POST!!

I have already received an email from our treasurer stating that your payment was NOT sent as FRIENDS/FAMILY..so the Club gets hit with the fee…and that is not what we want

look for an email from Bob with further instructions

I cannot emphasize enough that payment for the autoX via Paypal is to be sent

    FRIENDS/FAMILY ONLY

The instructions are clearly laid out in the original post..and the email that was sent to the full membership

    Very sorry Joe…

Wasn’t ignoring the instructions. Because my PayPal is connected to my business, they didn’t give me a Friends and Family option on my “Send Money” tab… (didn’t know ahead as I’ve never tried Friends and Family option)

So instead of doing it “by the book”, once I paid for myself and my son, I immediately went to look up the fees that I thought the club would incur and sent another PayPal payment to cover the fees. (You should see a $300 and then shortly there after $10 payment from me)

That’s the best I could think of to do … If I owe more, it’s all good… let me know 🙂

Another note that needs to be addressed…

the February sign up period is for MEMBERS ONLY…no exceptions

Starting March 1, we will open to non-members with Miatas, or non-members driving member Miatas.  We had several of those last year and there was no issue after the member sign up timeframe…the members that were sharing their cars got the non-members into the event on the first day that was an option

Just a few numbers for reference…last year there were 31 members that signed up and paid during the members only period which was extended to the end of the 1st week in March…..when it was opened to non-members with Miatas, there were two spots taken right away for shared cars…which left 7 spots open to non-member Miatas…and those were taken in 2 days.  which is how we ended up with an all Miata event.

Well folks…things are looking up…I just found this note from Bob in my email this morning.  Not bad at this point of the EXCLUSIVE TO REGISTERED NMC members…Reminder…That exclusive signup period expires Feb 29.  Limited to 40 spots.

    Good Morning ALL

As of this point in time NMC has 19 members confirmed and signed for Auto X

NMC also has 2 Non members on the waiting list who will pay the additional $10 for non members before March 1st so they can be added ON March 1st.

All totaled there are 21 drivers already, with only 8 days into the sign up time frame .

So if your going to be part of the Auto X  this year  SHOW ME THE MONEY. LOL

I’ve never been to one of these.

What are the safety/tech requirements. I’m assuming helmet (SA2015 should do). What about roll bar or anything else.

On a side note. I have a ’94 with the original seat belts. I’ve got to believe that having them sitting in the sun for 26 years has not improved them. Has anyone replaced their belts?

    Thanks

    Lew

Bob has already taken $$$ from two non members, but their names have not been posted to this list…those entries were sent in along with a member payment…not our usual method, but easier to keep the payment instead of refund then pay again…so here is the list

Just a little update on this event…

Obviously, things have changed a bit since we booked this event…the good news is that this event is going on as scheduled!!…YYAAAYYY!!…and they have invoiced us for the second 1/2 of the fee…so that is really good news

I have talked to a rep from LRP about procedures…and they are still tweaking things as to how things will be organized and run and any special procedures …best guess now is follow all state guidelines and be flexible

if anyone on the list cares to drop out…we have a few folks interested in attending that did not make it in back in February/March

A quick update on this event…a couple of Clubmembers have dropped out due to conflict or broken car…but we have filled those spots from a waiting list.  That’s the good news…more news on that front.  a clubmember contacted me this morning and would like to pass on this event, so his spot is now open….Clubmembers have priority until it is filled or Monday June 29 at 9am.  then it will be offered to Miatas outside the club. Clubmember entry is $150. the transfer of the spot will be handled between members, not the treasurer.  so if you are interested, and a Clubmember, drop me a line and I will put you in touch with the person that wants to drop out

Here is the latest procedures in place for our event at LRP on July 11…hot off the email this morning

Here are the latest Operating Procedures (attached) as well as a brief update on the restrictions.

Outdoor gatherings permitted up to 100 people. This also means guests (number within reason and not general public…) are permitted and pre-registration no longer required. Watching from hillsides by attendees is now permitted, but again, no general public.
Guests/Attendees require face covering when unable to maintain a safe social distance of six feet (as opposed to full-time). Means they still need to bring and wear during registration, when in line for Concessions, restrooms, etc. Employees still required to wear whenever public is present.
Instructors are allowed in vehicle with attendee/student, but no general ride-alongs.

    Yes…you would be considered a guest…same for wives..girlfriends..etc

As long as we don’t get crazy with a boatload of people showing up…but I would like a general idea of people planning to show up that are not drivers.  there will be lunch available…just not like we have done in the past with it being prepared by a friend and served out of my camper.  With things the way they are, a selfe serve buffet type lunch is not advisable…so we will be doing something different

RainX for the outside of your windshield is your friend…FogFree for the inside of the windshield is your really GOOD friend

Bring an umbrella…its gonna be wet at some point of the day…we can’t do anything about that

Bring your tire pressure gauge…some extra water/beverage of choice…its gonna be warm, so stay hydrated

Make sure you are properly masked per state regulations…social distancing guidelines will be in effect

I will be touching base with the track office first thing thursday morning to check on any changes or updates

Drove 90 minutes to come and watch and they wouldn’t let me in since I wasn’t racing but merely come to spectate – nit allowed due to CoVid.  (I was going with what was in the announcement below):

SPECTATORS WELCOME TO ATTEND…there is no cost to come and watch….you might even score a ride with one of the entrants or an instructor to get an idea of what this is all about.  If a spectator would care to join in the lunch, we will ask for a donation to cover the cost of lunch…TBD as the event time approaches…in cash at the time of the event.

I said I was a member of the Club, but the woman at the gate was rather brusque in denying me entry.   There were people being admitted (it was 12:30) – I hope they were racers with late start times for their events.

So….I had a nice ride but it would have been great to have seen what AutoX is about.

I heard thru the grapevine that you were denied entry…which was totally wrong.  we had over twenty ‘spectators’ at the event all day long.  One person, noit a Clubmember, was denied when he used the word spectator…and sent me a text as he departed…i told him to identify as a Nutmeg member and 20 minutes later he was standing infront of me watching the goings on…

I am really sorry that you had a tough time at the gate…there was no excuse for that.  I had a good conversation with track personnel on thursday about this very thing and most folks had no problem at all.

She asked was I racing….I wasn’t going to lie and say yes.  She seemed to have a list which I thought must be a list of the racers.

We were not required to have a list…one thing I double checked with the track office on thursday…the list requirement was relaxed from the prior requirement…maybe there was a list for the other event going on the big track, but not ours.  again, I am sorry to hear that you made the drive and had problems.  Your AE would have been a welcome addition to the eye candy already in place.

I hope I got everyone, if I did miss you, message me a description of your car and I’ll check my less than good images and see if I passed on it because it was slightly blurry or something.

Thanks goes to Peter for setting up a special spot that you guys can view and download images.

    A little update…

I talked to Mike at LRP this morning about getting our times posted in the overall standings.  Due to COVID restrictions, he is in the office only a couple days a week ….sssoooo…he had not gotten to our event yet, but was actually working on it when I called.  so the times should be up by end of the day
