For some of you who know, I have injured my foot and it’s healing.  And I can’t stand NOT driving 3 pedals a day longer!  (I did a test drive to work in my ND yesterday all was good)

I plan to be out and about.  And well…Little convertible friends are welcome to add to the excitement!  And I could always use some help on road selections.

Unfortunately for the Miata purists, I will be driving my imposter (S2000).  I’ve been waiting to get this car back on the road since engine swapping it, and having it Dyno tuned.  So today is my first day behind the wheel of it on a dry day.  So it has to be the new to me baby.

If someone wants to meet up, or know some roads please chime in!  We can plan a meet up and cruise along and maybe get a bite and a beer.  Today or tomorrow.  I’ll be driving!

Looks like we have some steam in the texting back and forth groups.

Day 1.) Saturday afternoon 4/6/24 1PM or so we will meet up at the ( SUNOCO) Mitchell Gas Station in Hawleyville on rt.25 right off Exit 9 I-84

SUNOCO Mitchell Gas station deli bathroom ect.

26 Hawleyville Rd Hawleyville, CT. (It’s really Newtown / Brookfield / Bethel corridor)

Being a random happening.. don’t know where we will end up.  But we will hopefully have radios To communicate.

Leave when you feel like it.  Just give back the radio.

Looks like you guys had great fun. Would’ve liked to participate but my leg is not quite there yet and I’m saving it for the spring run on the 21st. Look forward to some impromptu rides this summer.

Hey Keith!  Yes unfortunately with the spontaneous invite, since I was going out anyway.. Random 3 hrs notice, happening. Many could not make it.

I completely understand the limb not healed or well enough (my foot is not 100% yet.). Feel better my friend!

Well…I have to admit that this was a ton of fun…made up as we went along with a general idea of where we were going and sorta where we wanted to end up

Local road knowledge comes in handy…only ONE turn that ended up not panning out…turned to dirt

A good time was had, as evidenced by the grins at the end…

I am going to try and duplicate over the next couple days and try one of those route tracing apps on my phone

Sounds like a good run, except the Dirt road

Anyway, If anyone is looking for a route tracing app I highly recommend one called ROADS.  I have tried many and most are crap , except this one. It was created by Porsche and is free with no built in adds.  And it works with Carplay on your Miata with this feature, or just use it on your phone. Download it on your phone and check it out. I have used it many times

One of the best things about this app is that it recognizes your location and has many built in scenic and twisty roads built in, check it out.

In addition there is an article on the NMC website that I wrote outlining the use of this app.

Use Routes Created With Our Website Driving Route Program In Your Phone or GPS

And it works in conjunction with the Miata Maps Menu creation tool on the NMC website.

    NMC Routes Page

    Just a thought.

Woah!  Nice!  *Edit”. Was going to download… But only available for iphone.

    I have an Android smartphone.

I’ll see if something similar exists in the Android apps.

But I’m not sure if the routes saved in our site will work with another app.

I found an android app that uses the GPX file.

“OsmAnd”is the name of the Android navigation app .  I’m not plugging it, or saying anything good or bad until after I’ve tried the app out.

Going to try it now!   Litchfield hills

So the news is in.  It works.

It is not as intuitive or exact the pin point of the map sometimes the roads in the OsmAnd app are more curved than the GPX plot.  Thus it says things like slight right, or left ahead ect.  But I’m on the target road, just the line drawn is “straight” sometimes when the road I’m on isn’t.  Now like it’s completely indecisive or inconclusive of where you are or need to go, just have to glance at the app from time to time to see what it is saying and the physical roads on the software GPS downloaded Map of CT.

    I hope that made sense…

It works.  It’s very usable.  It’s not as good as the directions from WAZE or Google Maps navigation.   But I did more than half of the Litchfield Map but it was getting late so we switched off and headed straight home had to make dinner plans.

But 2 red sports cars, husband and wife, and 2 sons!  Great time!

Oh I noticed on the App Startup way at the bottom:

*OsmAnd* app for Android stands for

    “Open Street Map”

Just thought I would make that clearer titled.

    Thumbs Up

On a very rare occasion, but since I have Apple CarPlay, I strictly use Waze. I like to know where the police are. Previous to my current 2016 Miata, I had a 2017 Fiat 124 spider which as we all know is a Miata with a different body and engine and I used to use the standard built-in navigation all the time. It worked excellent.
