After coming back walking into my garage after a few days in the city I noticed glass all over my Miata (’22 RF GT), a hole in the garage’s window, and a small rock on the floor next to the car.

After looking at my dash cam’s parking records it looks like the “incident” occurred shortly after I left home as the church next door was letting out (the window in question faces their parking lot).

Anyway, now I have a nasty scratch and dent  on one of the car’s roof panels.  The scratch appears to be deeper than the clear coat. I’m trying to determine what type of repair to peruse and if I should get insurance involved.

My dealer quoted me $6800 just for the part that needs replacing (the biggest panel of the roof) but I think it may be wise to avoid taking apart the convertible top.

I had hoped that the dealer could just replace part N248-R1-630B-51 (just the outer metal of the panel) but they expressed that would be impossible.

Anyone know a good body shop that I can visit for an estimate?

Durable in Waterbury did an outstanding job on my AE when it needed work….twice

Know these guys for over 20 years…the main painter is the son of a clubmember…and I have known one other painter / final assembly guy since his sons were in my cub Scout unit…

    Top notch people…

    Sorry to hear about this.

I think the hardest color to reproduce correctly is paint code V46 – soul red crystal metallic which is a 3 stage paint process and finding painters to have mastered the process.

Likely your polymetal gray is somewhat easier to color match so not as critical as the V46.

Thanks for all the info. I’m actually going to try pointless dent repair first and go from there.

My dent guy doesn’t think it went through the clear like I suspected.

For what it’s worth the car is actually jet black mica. It helps to make the scratches as obvious as possible. 🙂

If anyone is curious I ended up using a PDR guy (7dents in Milford) and the result was perfect. Highly recommend him.
