Joe’s poker runs are one of the most popular events of the season.  This is the only self paced ride we do every year so sign up to reserve your place, grab a navigator and come on out for some fun Sunday Aug 14th.  !

Plan on at least 3 hours to complete the ride at a ‘normal’ pace. Yes, you might be able to complete in shorter amount of time, but remember…THIS IS NOT A RACE!!  You can stop whenever or wherever you wish for a break.

Drivers Meeting at 10am (end time is whenever the last car is done)

Starting at Modern Motors in Thomaston, CT

WHAT IS A POKER RUN?

You don’t need to know a great deal about poker to take part.  Participants stop at 6 signs along the route and randomly  collect a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Having the best hand and winning is purely a matter of chance.

Arrive at the starting spot with two people in the car.  AND BRING:

  • a pen or pencil (old school!!)
  • a clipboard comes in handy
  • and a willingness to go out for a day of fun and games.

At the beginning of the ride you are given one playing card and a set of route instructions…turn by turn..NO MILEAGES!!!  Along the way there will be questions to answer. (This is more to keep the navigator entertained than the driver, because he/she will be busy. These little rides have a tendency to find some of the more obscure back roads in the state, but don’t worry…NO DIRT ROADS!!)

As you go along in the instructions, there will be an instruction to …TAKE A CARD. Then, before you go on to the next instruction you will be looking for a sign on the right side of the road.  When you see the sign, stop (safely). On the sign will be a ziploc bag containing sealed envelopes with a playing card inside. Take one of the envelopes ( there are enough envelopes for there to be one for each car ).

Find the 6 signs along the route and you will end up with a poker hand.  At the end of the ride the person with the best poker hand gets the cheezy trophy.

😆 Simple?…well…that remains to be seen.
At the end we will go over the questions.  Anything you see along the route is fair game for a question, and some will be in the form of a riddle.
This years run ends up at a nice place with 50 beers on tap and good food…and they have plenty of parking so sign up to join us!

Cut off for signing up for this event is FRIDAY AUGUST 12 AT 8pm

If you sign up…PLEASE SHOW UP!!! This is critical.
We have to know EXACTLY how many cars are coming because we go out the day before to place the signs, and only put enough cards in the bags for the number of cars.

This is a rain or shine activity…trust me, your Miata will not melt or the color wash off if it gets wet, and we have seen some wet ones in the past.
